The Bears came up big in our biggest challenge of the season. Facing what some were calling the best team in the NFC (and certainly a dangerous offense with big play potential), the Bears played their best all-around game this year. Bear players downplayed this being a statement game, but there’s no way around it – we put ourselves on the map Sunday. And we beat the Eagles at their own game – we had 4 plays of at least 30 yards, Philly had 0. You better start making your Supa Bow plans…
We started out strong, like bull, going up 14-3 after 3 drives and only 11 offensive plays. But Philly cut the lead to 1, and was about to go ahead when Chris Harris picked one off in our end zone. 6 plays later, another TD put us up 21-13. We scored our last TD a minute and a half into the second half on only 3 plays, and our final score (a FG) came on our next possession: an 83-yard, 17-play, 10-minute drive that included 3 third-down conversions on pass plays. And not only was it almost as long as our combined possessions in the first half (23 plays, 10:30 mins), but it gave us an 18-point lead at the end of the third quarter.
Offensively we were awesome. Forte ran for 117 yards – the most by anyone against Philly this year. The Butler was 14-21 for 247 yards, 4 TD’s and 0 INT’s for a career-best QBR of 146.2. He was sacked 4 times, but our line played well overall for the fourth straight game, showing promise that we may have just figured out this whole blocking thing. The Eagles led the league in takeaways but the Bears didn’t turn it over once. The one negative: Taylor ran for -3 yards, bringing his average down to 2.6 per carry. I propose we stop handing him the ball. Let’s see what Seven Hester had to say about Philly’s defense:
Hester Showing Philly his Booty
Defensively we were once again solid. Vick had 333 yards passing and 44 on the ground, but much of that was after the game was out of reach. We sacked him 4 times and forced his first pick of the year after 212 passes – and his first in 238 overall. It was our only take-away, but it was enough.
Game Ball
This week’s game ball goes to the defense for shutting down the dog killing MVP candidate. Sure his overall numbers were solid and we only won by 5, but Philly scored 13 points in the fourth quarter when we were protecting a big lead. And this guy was responsible for 6 TD’s a couple weeks ago.
Summary
We’ve now won 4 in a row, are 8-3 (.727) overall, 3-0 in the division, and 6-3 in the conference. With GB losing, we’re alone in first place. And we’ve now won 3 of the games we were supposed to lose. With 5 of those left, I’m gonna stick with my prediction that we’ll lose out and hope that the Bears continue to prove me wrong.
Super Bowl, Super Bears!

Thank you for beating the Eagles. My Giants are now tied with them for first in our division. Just wish they could of beat the Skins too. Looks like the Bears played their best game of the year, so far. But Super Bowl bound, I doubt it.

The transcript from the first post-game interview with Lovie Smith after the game:
“Of course, let me first start by discussing my Thanksgiving meal. My wife had all 3 phases going strong – appetizers, meal and dessert. I like where I was. Of course, nobody expected the conversation to be good, but it was. The only ones who cared about the conversation were in that room, and that’s all that matters. Of course, we had some leftovers, which you need after a big meal like that if you’re going to go where we are….grandmas house the next day. But we took it one meal at a time, and of course, were pleased with the results.”

Awesome article as usual, Stan, but why do you have a picture of Hester’s ass?

uncle jerry, thanks for reading, but this is a bears blog site. nobody gives a shit about your giants, and they certainly don’t want you clogging the drain with this drivel. please keep your comments to yourself, and take your readership elsewhere.
don, thanks for your first comment in a while. i look forward to your comments the most. in fact, the only reason i continue to write the blog is to have a medium for you to post them. keep up the good work, buddy!
mike, there were several reasons for the picture of hester’s booty. first off, it’s from a previous eagle’s game so i thought it was apropos. secondly, he’s mooning the player behind him as if he’s saying, “i fly on the field and get own down…do you see my booty?” third, i think it’s hysterical and remember watching the game when it happened and thinking to myself, “wtf? did they just show hester’s booty on tv?!” and lastly, everybody likes a good photo.
thanks all for reading (except you, uncle jerry), and bear down!

Baffa,
Your blog is more entertaining than the actual games! Keep up the good work and thank you for keeping the Giants fans in their place.

It was a great game, but the 2nd half was a bit scary. The Bears kept going 3 & out too often. While people want to criticize Taylor for being negative, you can’t go on a player who doesn’t get enough touches. Forte had 117 or whatever, but one play was like 60 something yards of that, and he was caught from behind by like 3 players. He’s not as fast as people make him out to be. But, just my thoughts on the game.
Love the pics & your write-ups. Always entertaining!!
