15. Detroit (Sucks!) Wins Back Sucks Moniker

The Bears benched Jay Cutler in favor of a guy who’s played 16 NFL games and thrown 9 passes this season after not seeing the field since he was a rookie in 2010.  He also happens to be named after the town where Cutler was born:  Santa Claus, IN.  And Jimmy “Santa” Claus(en) had the lead midway through the fourth quarter.  But our D failed again, and then Detroit (sucks again!) gave him a concussion on our final drive via cheap shot.  So after dropping our fourth straight, we’re now forced to go back to Cutler for the season finale.  That’s like getting your new girlfriend pregnant but still taking your ex to the holiday party.  Man, you can’t make this shit up!

Suh looked like he wanted more than a sack on this one,
and Claus(en) looked like he was ready to take his licks

Claus(en) finished 23 of 39 (59%) for 181 yards, 2 TD’s, 1 INT and a 77.0 QBR.  His only turnover was on our final drive.  After the helmet-to-helmet hit, he threw 3 straight incompletions, and then a desperate, concussion-aimed bomb on fourth and long that was picked off.  Before that drive, his QBR was 97.4 – and that doesn’t even count the 7 dropped passes.  Either way, he was the best QB on the field Sunday as he increased the number of NFL passes he’s thrown by 14.5% to 308.  Contrast that with Stafford and Cutler’s 3,000+ each, and the fact that they’ve each thrown 200+ more passes this season alone, there wasn’t much of a drop-off.

True Value
Sure, Claus(en) was aided substantially by special teams, but the kid didn’t look like he’s been on the shelf for four years.  He looked like he could win if he had a defense.  Cutler can do that too, but he costs us $18M a year.  Claus(en) is making $645k.  Imagine what we could do with $17,355,000 more to spend on defense!  And Claus(en) has only cost us $645k per turnover.  Cutler is at $750k per right now, but he could prove a better value if he turns it over 4 times in Sunday’s finale.  Unfortunately, most of us would agree that that is likely to happen.

Quotes To Note
All-state pitcher from Bourbonnais, IL, Ben Mitchell: “Jimmy helped the defense by not throwing three picks and keeping the game close.”  ~  Well said, Ben.  Not as meaty as your heater, but well said nonetheless.

the father, son and the holy ghost…”
