Well the Bears are certainly a different team than we’ve been for the last 5 years. Winning by over 30 points (49-10) for our 2nd time in 5 weeks, we’re showing we can win on both sides of the ball. And this one was without the “Captain And” Khalil Mack, which got me thinking. With him on the field this year, we’re allowing 22.3 points a game. But without him, it’s just 9.5. People don’t seem to remember that we were a top-10 defense last year. Instead of Mack being the best thing to happen to the Bears, it’s starting to look like the Bears are the best thing to happen to Mack. Either way, if we had it to do all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing.
It didn’t seem like our D really misses Mack
The Low Down
The party didn’t start until the 2nd quarter, but it came crashing through the wall like the Kool-Aid guy, as we scored 28 straight points. The Bears’ drives at that point went about as good as it gets: Offensive TD, Punt, Defensive TD, Punt, Defensive TD, Offensive TD. And Buffalo’s went about as bad as it can: Punt, Fumble-6, Pick, Pick-6, Punt. It was over at the half, though the Bears tried to keep the Bills in it by committing 14 penalties for 129 yards – which is more yards than we netted all game in the air (126). But just like Sarah Palin, there was just no way the Bills were coming back.
The Bears certainly weren’t want for celebrations
The Troubadour didn’t do much, but he didn’t have to. In the 2nd half, we ran just 15 plays and gained only 31 yards, as he completed just 4 passes for 21 yards. He finished 12/20 (60%) for 135 yards (6.8/attempt), 1 TD, 1 INT, and a 76.0 QBR – which is nothing to be proud of. But if you count the 2 Pass Interference penalties he got us for 91 total yards as completions (which I do), his QBR would’ve been a 94.1. And that’s not only good enough, it’s enough to make the Kool-Aid guy scream, “Oh YEAH!”
This celebration even got us a penalty. I never realized
that Aaron “Hips” Lynch was such a big Key & Peele fan!
Our defense was once again stellar, though we did face another backup QB. Buffalo’s Nathan “J.” Peterman had a lower QBR (45.5) than he had pass attempts (49), which is quite an accomplishment. The Bears got 4 turnovers on the day to go along with 4 sacks. And the 2 defensive TDs gives us 4 this year. Roquan “The Black Swan” Smith led us with a season-best 14 tackles. And Cody “Squi” Parkey had his 2nd best Bear game, scoring 11 points, and going 7 for 7. So he’s off our shart list. At least until Sunday.
Peterman played about as well as the owner of a fashion mag
Outlook
The Bears are now 5-3, which is better than just about everyone foresaw, and right on schedule for what our staff predicted (10-6). Minnesota (5-3-1) won, but they’ve got that nasty tie that’s going to catch up with them come season’s end. And GB (3-4-1) and Detroit (3-5) both lost. So I’d say we’re sitting in the catbird seat at the season turn. Especially considering our 3 losses were by a combined 11 points, that we had a 10-point lead in each of those games, and that they were losses to Rodgers, Brady, and the sweltering Miami heat in OT.
It seemed like balls were just falling out of the sky for us
As we head into the 3rd quarter of our season, we start by playing 3 games in 11 days. We host Detroit on Sunday, then Minnesota the Sunday after (which was just moved to 7:20 pm), and then we go to Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. 3 division games is just what we need to pull away. As our staff predicted two weeks ago, we will win all 3 of those. And then we get 10 days off before traveling to New York to straight-up murder the Giants. That would put us at 9-3 just in time to host the now 8-1 LA Rams – which could be a preview of the NFC championship game.
You get a ball! You get a ball! Everybody gets a ball!
Quotes of Note
Jim Miller: “Early it was just kind of a field position battle, going back and forth. And then boom! The turnovers started to happen.” ~ And boom goes the dynamite.
Bills’ fans actually cheered loudly on this play –
just because it was THROWN into the endzone
(it didn’t seem to matter that it was into triple coverage)
Miller, on our D: “Those guys were sticking and laying the wood all the way until the end.” ~ Or maybe he was reviewing an adult film?
Boy, do we fly on the field and get on down!
Truby, when asked about his numbers: “For me, it’s not about numbers. It’s about coming out and getting a win as a team. And we dominated as a team.” ~ Damn. Take THAT, fake news!
The “number” of Trubisky fumbles, picks, and sacks: 1 each
el Truberino: “We’re eager to get on to division play…We’re excited to prove ourselves in the division.” ~ Yup, and so are us fans!
These guys tried a new one – combining a high-five with docking.
And the “high dry dock” is difficult to do with pants and a jock on!
So bring on Detroit! Bring on Minnesota! And bring on Detroit again!

Good Review! Almost as good as watching the game. Even with the 3 losses, sure am enjoying the Bears’ games this year. 3 in 11 days….YIPEE!! Did not realize that!
