Back in the saddle, baby! The Bears are on fire after winning their 3rd straight. And this week we did it with depth. Missing 6 (yes, SIX!) starters, we came away with 6 sacks and 2 takeaways, holding Minnesota to just 6 points, as our backup QB led the offense to 16. And to top it all off, everyone else in our division lost, moving us from the cellar to a tie for 1st place with GB at 3-1. As I’m sure Trump can attest, 4 days – and an appearance by Chase “Stormy” Daniel – can really change your perspective on things!
Chase was greeted more warmly by the
Vikes’ defense than he was by Bear fans
The Low Down
Missing 3 starters on defense (Akiem “A Saw, A Conquered” Hicks, Bilal “Pronounced Like Pedophile” Nichols, and Roquan “Missing In Saigon” Smith, who was out for “personal reasons”), we limited MIN to just 2 possessions in the 1st half, holding them to 59 yards. And before their last drive of the 3rd quarter, they’d fallen back to just 53 yards gained. The 1st 6 Viking drives went: fumble, punt, fumble (on 1st play), punt, punt, fumbled but recovered and then punted. And that sounds WAY better than it looked!
Ha Ha “Takeaway” Clinton-Dix got another takeaway –
but he still doesn’t seem to know how to carry the ball!
By contrast, and despite missing 3 starters on offense (Truby Tuesday, Kyle “I Haven’t Been Good In So” Long, and Taylor “So Much For Those 3 TDs Last Week” Gabriel), the Bears’ 1st 6 drives went: TD, punt, FG, FG, punt, FG. And Lt. Pete Mitchell went down 5 plays in; it was Daniel who out-gained the Vikings all by himself! Eddy “Monopoly Money” Pineiro pitched in, too, going 3 for 3. His last FG put us up 16-0 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd, and it stayed that way until the final 3 minutes, when the Vikes gained almost half their yards on one drive against our prevent D.
Either Eddy’s locked in mentally, or he sees Jesus
Outlook
We’re back to where we want to be: hot, deep, and in 1st place! There are only 2 NFL teams with more wins than us (Pats and Chiefs, surprised?). Who knows, this could all be meaningless if the Troubador is out for good. But hopefully, even if he misses some time, we won’t implode and drop out of the playoff hunt before he returns. As has been the case over our last 21 games, playing 3 dominant quarters of D will get you the W much more often than it won’t.
The Trubes: “Wait, is it Chase, or is it Daniel?”
Quotes of Note
Announcer Jim “Nancy Pants” Nantz: “How about when you come out, take the opening kick, burn off half the 1st quarter, and produce 7 points with your backup QB?” ~ And 7 minutes in – before MIN even touched the ball – Chase alone scored more than they did all game.
Daniel: “Let me just say one thing about Black Lives Matter…”
Announcer Tony Romo, on this being a division game: “I think what you’ll find is this is gonna come back to be a big one between these two later on.” ~ That’s what she said.
On the live play, and the replay, Mitch’s injury didn’t look bad.
But this still pic made me go, “Holy shit, that’s his left arm?!”
The “Captain And” Khalil Mack, on who in his supporting cast impressed him the most: “You got too many guys…you got Nick. You got other Nick. N’ah mean? You got white Nick, black Nick…there’s just so many guys stepping in there.” ~ White Nick (Kwiatkoski) led us with 10 tackles (along with a sack), while black Nick (Williams) led us with 2 sacks (to go with 7 tackles). Additionally, polytech Nick had a sack, carcinogen Nick was a healthy scratch, and jolly old St. Nick added the Bears to his “Nice” list.
Black Nick certainly “put it on” Cousins –
And I’m talking both figuratively AND literally!
Mack, on how important the win was: “A dog that poop(s) fast don’t poop for long…the most important one is the next one.” ~ I have no idea what that means, nor can I tell if he’s referring to the Bears’ next game, or that dog’s next poop. But if Khalil “$90M Guaranteed” Mack says it, it’s probably legit.
White Nick tried to keep things figurative,
but Cousins insisted on a reach-around.
BEAR DOWN!
