11. Bears Win, But No One Really Cares Now

It came a week after our season ended, but the Bears found a way to win for the 2nd time already in November after going winless in October.  But it changes nothing.  We beat a 2-8 team that’s lost 23 of their last 33 games.  We still gave up 14 points to a rookie QB, we only won by 5, and NYG kicker Aldrick “And No Drock” Rosas missed 2 FGs!  So, eh.  Big whoop.  We’re still short a kicker, a TE, an O-Line, and a QB.  So our season’s still over.  This was arguably the least exciting win our blog has covered.  AND it’s about to get unbearably cold in Chicago.  So, it’s just like, whatever, man.  Call me when you find a QB.  Anybody got Kaepernick’s number?

Trubisky ran for one TD and threw for another.
Here he is, showing us how much his hip hurts.

The Low Down
Mitch finished 25 of 41 for 278 yards, 1 TD,  and 2 INTs (a 69.0 QBR).  Which is a D+.  We punted on 4 of our first 5 possessions, the other being a 77-yard drive at the end of the 1st quarter that ended in a redzone pick.  But then, for a 17-minute window from the final 2 minutes of the 2nd quarter until the end of the 3rd, he went 14 of 19 for 197 yards, a TD, and a 124.2 QBR.  And during that time, we scored on 4 straight drives, tallying all 19 of our points.  But, as usual, it would be short-lived.

He did assume a nice standing thunder-
munchee position here, I’ll give him that

On the 1st play of the 4th quarter, Trubisky threw his 2nd pick, slamming that window shut for good.  And in the 43 minutes outside that window, he was just 11 of 22 for 81 yards, and 2 INTs (a 21.2 QBR).  On the other hand, Giant rookie Daniel “Kicked In The Ca” Jones was 21 of 36 for 150 yards, 2 TDs, and 0 INTs (an 86.6 QBR).  Mitch is actually quite lucky he didn’t blow this one for us, though he tried his darndest.  Losing to a backup QB is one thing.  But losing to a rookie, especially one that isn’t very good, that’s quite another.

Apparently, this Daniel “Ca” Jones has more cajones than Mitch.
Or is it “better” cajones than Mitch?  “Bigger” cajones than Mitch?

Doubtlook
At 5-6, the Bears are now in a 3-way tie with Philly and CAR for the #4 WC position, and just a game behind the #3 (Rams, 6-5).  Which wouldn’t be that bad if we were any good.  But we’re just not.  And with only 5 games left, we’re 4 behind the #1 WC (SEA, 9-2), and 3 behind the #2 (Min, 8-3)Additionally, we trail our division leader (GB, 8-3) by 3.  We do get to play both GB and MIN, but we’d still need to win out, AND get some help.  So nothing really changed this week.  Well, except that we now have 1 less game to catch the 7 NFC teams ahead of us.

“Ca” Jones did fumble, giving the Bears the ball at the Giant 3,
but in his defense, his blockers were all facing the wrong way

Quotes of Note
Announcer Chris Spielman, before the 2nd half:  “Who’s gonna make the less mistakes, are gonna be the ones that who win the game.” ~ Is this numskull really the best Fox can do?

Cajones:  “Hey you, yeah you, right there.  Are
you the asshole who kicked me in my cajones?!”

Comcast Sports’s Olin Kreutz:  “One good thing for Eddy is, when you’re doing bad, always find somebody doing worse than you.  It’ll make you feel better.  And the guy across the field, (Giant kicker) Rosas, he was doing worse than Eddy.” ~ You see there?  THAT is how you provide hard-hitting analysis.  Get it together, Fox!

Eddy “70%” Pineiro, celebrating his not being the
worst kicker on the field for the 1st time in his career

Coach Matt “He Always Makes Me” Nagy:  “Obviously, again, a win is always nice.  That’s what we’re looking for, and they’re hard to come by in this league.” ~ Actually, Coach, the league hands out 16 of them every week.  Rain or shine.

Nagy reveals the play-calling strategy that’s gotten us to 5-6:
Rock, Paper, Scissors.

Trubisky:  “Happy we won, but it’s not good enough.  Not nearly good enough.” ~ Yeah, the record store called.  They want their broken record back, lickety split.

The 2019 Chicago Bears:  “Not nearly good enough!”

Trubisky does not look like the guy. Also, power teams are more successful this year. Bears completely missed the boat on that.

And coaching – cue the eye roll.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for your comments.

It looks like the Bears exceeded your expectations as well. Here’s hoping it continues!
