3. Bears’ Odd-QB-Out Beats Bears

It seemed like he was throwing the ball to the wrong team, almost all 67 record-setting times.  The Bears traded him back to Tampa, but Brian “Lube It Up Til It’s Good And” Griese got his revenge Sunday when he stuck it in the Bears collective ass in their home opener.  He kept it close by spotting us 3 INT’s, but for the second week in a row a former Bear had a big game against us, and the Bears again wake up Monday morning as losers.  I’m just sick about it.  I gave our staff the night off and told them to go home and be with their families to ride out the Katrina-sized storm that is raining down on Bear Nation.  Make no mistake about it folks, our season is already on the brink of disaster, and there’s still a week left in baseball’s regular season.  I think it’s time to start calling for some heads.

We have the tools on this squad, just look at our roster: Seven Hester, Forte, Kreutz, Tait, Olsen, Lloyd, Harris, Urlacher, Briggs, both Browns, Peanut, Vasher, Gould, Maynard, Mannelly.  Aside from the QB position, which could be debated until McMahon comes back, we can match up with any NFC team from A to Z.  So what’s the difference?  I think it’s our execution.  And that can be attributed to poor match-ups, poor game situations, and poor play-calling.  So I’m calling out the coaching staff.

Think about it.  We dominate early defensively, and then we fall apart.  How can our D be so good at times but not be able to make the adjustments to finish a game?  And offensively, in spite of our weakness at QB – though Orton again had a better completion % (64.7 to 56.7) and QBR (83.9 – 66.0) than his opposition – we have plenty of weapons to make something happen, as evidenced by the flashes of brilliance we’ve shown.  But they only come sporadically, and that can’t happen.  Coaching is about putting your players in position to achieve, to excel, to win.  It’s sending in the right play and/or scheme given the situation and personnel.  And it looks like we’re being out-thunk on a consistent basis on both sides of the ball.

So in this political season when even the un-qualified are submitting quick-fix proposals, here’s mine: Turner, dead.  Babich, dead.  Niedermeyer, dead!  I want them out, and I want them out yesterday! Nice knowing you, but don’t let the doorknob hit you in the butt on your way out.  You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.  It’s not you, it’s me.  I like you, just not that way – but we can still be friends.  I gave at the office.  We already have a George.  Your locker has been re-assigned to the cheerleading squad.  The unemployment office called – they have a check for you.  Hey, do you guys remember Ron Rivera?  However you want to say it, just say it.  Lovie can stay – at least until next week.

Barring any miracle that Bears management listens to my meth-addict-sized cry for help, we need to regroup as a team, and as a Super Fan kingdom.  We need a serious gut-check on the field (and some serious face-painting and garb-wearing in the stands) on Sunday night.  Somebody get Hester to a clinic in Switzerland, or call Mr. Miyagi to do that thing where he rubs his hands and fixes human flesh, because Sunday is a must-win.  Shoot, the next 3 are must-wins.  But 1-3 is no way to go through September in the NFL.  So we need either Coach Ditka or William Wallace to give the pre-game speech.  Sunday night will be like a playoff game – we either keep our season alive for one more week, or we’ll be executed.  Tickets are still available.  Let me know how it comes out…

    The team is fine.

    Lovie sucks.

The big difference between him and I, yesterday?

While I could only sink into despair while I watched the Bucs no-huddle their way through a fatigued Bears’ D; Lovie had the option to call one of his three remaining time outs and give his guys a breather.

When the D line has their hands on their hips, and the opponent is slicing you up in a hurry-up … ? I mean, c’mon.

    Fiddle,

Thank you for sharing your opinion with our readers, and thanks of course for reading.

I like Lovie. Everybody knows he don’t mess around. He tells you what he wants and he holds you accountable, though I would like to have seen Olsen benched Sunday. And I’d like to see Peanut at least not start next week, even if he comes in on the second play. It would send a message; whereas not doing that sends another message.

As for not calling a time out, you may be right. But as for tiring out, Urlacher said it himself when questioned about it after the game, “We don’t get tired.” These are pro athletes that only work 20 days a year. You’re not in shape?! Well you GET in shape, mister! And isn’t Tampa’s offense on the field for each play our defense is? I’m sorry, I just don’t buy that excuse.

How and the hell does Ron Turner keep his job. He has NO idea how to put a game away. and Caggabe Patch Babich is a fuckin moron. Our philosphy does not work in this league, when your offensive/defensive philosphies are not congruant. Get a lead and let the DEFENSE try and hold on….this would work, except that you can’t play scared! The whole time they were trying to ‘stop’ Griese, we were mostly dropped back in a PREVENT Defense…against a no huddle offense that just picked apart the zone! Come on we excel at creating turnovers, putting pressure on the QB. BLITZ BLTIZ BLITZ.

And O….my. You have to maintain a drive…why did we abandon teh pass when it woprked so well starting teh second half? Because we were SCARED… you can’t play SCARED in teh NFL. and I don’t mean the players in this… I mean the coaching staff. It’s the fucking NFL folks, you have the best athletes in the game out there. Show some confidence in them. Why wait til the second half to bust out a passing game on first and second down? Here is a nugget for the Eagles on teh Bears O….run, run, run, pass, Punt. God our coaching is horrible.

I don’t see the D coordinator or the O coordinator or Lovie as the issue here. I don’t even know why Bear fans want to go in that direction. The D let you down. They gave up 10 points in 6 minutes and that’s that. We have what? Potentially 8 pro-bowlers on that D? How many millions are invested in that D? Who got paid in the off-season? Ask your self that question. Who got paid? Tillman, Vasher, Briggs, Urlacher, Goon, Alex Brown, Tommie Harris. Ths team is set up for the D to win them games and its not happening. Same deal in the Carolina game by the way. We don’t have Romo or TO or Tom Brady and Randy Moss. So they must rely on the D to get it done and its not happening and its really unfortunate. And I can’t help but wonder what has happened to Tommie Harris?

    Guys,

Thanks for your posts, which ironically differ in blame but are both written with a Super Fan pen. The Bears tend to stir up conflict with losses, and there are typically many fingers to point at culprits. But let’s give it a couple more weeks before we officially decide, as the Bears don’t even seem to have decided themselves if they’re going to give it a go this year.

But keep Bearing down! Sometimes, that’s reward in and of itself.
