3. Bears Win Biggest Game In 3 1/2 Years

Ho-ly Shit!  After being dominated in their last four match-ups, the Bears beat the Fudge Packers on a Monday night, becoming the only unbeaten team in the NFC.  That’s two NFC title contenders we’ve beaten in back to back weeks after “losing” to the worst NFC team on opening day.  It sure didn’t hurt that GB had more penalties (18) than they did points (17).  And after GB set a team record for penalties in a game, the NFL is considering changing the color of the yellow penalty flag to yellow and green.

Urlacher called this our biggest game since we beat Indy in Super Bowl XLI.  And winning it certainly makes it so.  Did we look bad?  Yes.  Were we out-played?  Yes.  Did GB deserve to win?  Yes.  We were out-passed by over 100 yards, were out-sacked 3-0, missed a FG, and had the ball 11 fewer minutes.  And Lovie went for it again on 4th and goal from the 1 when we were trailing – and again we failed.

But good teams find ways to win even if they don’t play well.  We blocked a FG (Peppers), won the turnover battle 2-1, punted only twice, and returned a punt for a TD (Hester).   And our defense held GB to 63 yards rushing, bringing our season total to a mere 121 rushing yards allowed – 68 fewer than Ced Benson had in one game last year.

The Cutler Identity
The Butler had an off night, but played well enough to win within the rules of the game.  By that I mean that he threw 5 INT’s, but 4 didn’t count – 3 were wiped out due to penalties and 1 was ruled an incompletion.  He completed under 60% of his passes, and completed less than half of what Rodgers did (34-16).  But he was efficient, averaging over a yard more per attempt.  And for the third week in a row he completed passes to 6 different receivers.  He also led us in rushing yards with 37.

Game Ball
Hester finally – FINALLY – returned a punt for a TD.  It was his first in 31 games (12/30/07), and we can once again refer to him as “Seven” Hester.

Summary
We go to the 1-2 Giants on Sunday night.  And what looked like a certain loss just two weeks ago now looks like a certain win.  As do our next five games.  Yeah, the Bears could (and should) start the season 8-0!  And from there, the sky is the limit.

The Bears are who we thought they were!
