In a game that Miami should have forfeited because they had more injuries than an emergency room on a Saturday night on Chicago’s South Side, the Bears absolutely dominated them. Miami spent as little time in Bear territory as Lindsay Lohan spent in prison, and we pitched our first shutout in over 4 years, giving Miami only its second goose egg at home in 40 years. For the third time in a row, we looked really good against a bad team. And again, there’s really not much to celebrate other than the W – our third in 12 days.
Miami’s offense looked as incompetent as our Tom Collins-led offense – to the point that you wonder if they even had a game plan. Our defense flew on the field and got on down, stopping them on third down 10 out of 11 times, recording 6 sacks, and holding them to 187 total yards – and only 39 on the ground. We held them to less than 4 yards on 5 of their 10 drives, and only allowed them past our 45-yard line once before the final play of the game.
Offensively, we looked pretty weak. Though we ran 20 more plays (68-48) and had the ball almost twice as long (38-22 mins), we tied in yards gained per play (3.9) and only scored 1 TD. We did run for 135 yards, but passed for fewer yards and only moved 81 more total yards. Surprisingly, the Butler’s numbers (16-25, 156 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks, 64.8 QBR) were as awful as Miami’s Tyler Pigpen (17-29, 187 yds, 0 TD, 1 INT, 6 sacks, 63.4 QBR). And considering the difference in the defenses they faced, you’d have to say the Buttnut was out-played by a third string QB who was 1-10 as a starter.
Game Ball
Julius Ceaser Dr. Peppers got 3 sacks – 1 more than he’s had all year. And it’s about damn time that mofo did so.
Summary
Dog killer Mike Vick, coming off arguably one of the greatest NFL games by a QB ever, brings his A-game to Chi-town. This will be a very good test for our highly touted D. I doubt we can hold him down like the penal system has, but as the Bears continue to prove me wrong, I’m going to go ahead and predict another winner. And if we can do that, we will finally hear that familiar song on local radio stations….bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom…”We are the Bears Shufflin’ Crew…”
Super Bowl, Super Bears!
