11. Bears Sweep Detroit In 12 Days With 2 Different QBs

You wouldn’t believe it if I hadn’t told you it was going to happen.  The Bears just won their 5th straight, and their 3rd in just 12 days.  And this one was without Trubisky.  Boy, I bet Jay Cutler felt pretty shitty on Thursday night.  Not because he was thinking about our Indigenous peoples being robbed of their native land.  No, because he was out-played by a QB with just 1 TD pass in 9 years, and that nobody knows because he’s got 2 first names, and they’re backwards:  Chase “Doesn’t ‘Daniel Chase’ Sound Better?” Daniel.  That should tell you at least one thing about the Bears’ offense – it’s the scheme, not the personnel, that counts.  When asked if this was true, Taquan “The Kwan” Mizzell (another no-namer who scored his 1st career TD on Daniel Chase’s 2nd career TD pass) said:  “For shizzle my mizzell!”

Daniel Chase TRIPLED his career TD passes in 1 game –
which says more about our coach than it does about him.

The Low Down
Not that it means much because we kept our streak alive with a backup QB, but we actually trailed in this game for about 11 minutes.  We weren’t being out-played, we just weren’t scoring like we usually do.  But every time the Lions took the lead, we answered back.  And when Detroit tied it late, our D got us the lead for good on the 1st play of the Lions’s next possession.  It was our biggest lead, which was only 7, and it didn’t come until the final 6 minutes – but it stood.  It was a complete flip of our typical approach.  And it STILL worked!  I almost feel guilty that we’re winning so easily.  Almost.

I think whoever’s running our TD dance squad might be racist –
they don’t seem to let any of the white guys in on them

Daniel Chase finished 27/37 (73.0%) for 230 yards (6.2/att), 2 TDs, 0 INTs and a 106.8 QBR.  Which is stellar, even for a starter.  Not only was he better than Cutler (227 career TDs), but more importantly, he was better than his counterpart Matthew Stafford (233 TDs), who was 28/38 (73.7%) for 236 yards (6.2/att), 0 TDs, 2 INTs and a 67.4 QBR.  Eerily similar numbers there, except for the TDs/INTs, which matter most.  Daniel Chase was even better than the Troubador’s 97.7 season QBR.  With a performance like that, Truby Tuesday just lost his ability to make excuses for his own on-field performance going forward.

Even our O-Line didn’t recognize Daniel Chase, so they
spent half the day helping the Lion defenders tackle him

But that defense, though, amIright?!  Our D held the Lions to 110 yards in the 1st half, with Detroit’s only TD coming off a turnover in Bear territory.  And they held the Lions to 9 points in the 2nd half, coming up with 2 late INT’s.  Roquan “The Strap-On” Smith sat back, relaxed and strapped it down, leading us in tackles (11) for the 3rd time in 4 weeks, and getting his 4th sack.  And with just over a minute left, Kyle “Long Probably Ate More Than You On Thanksgiving, So His Belly Was” Fuller closed it out with his 5th INT in our last 7 games.  That squad is becoming one of the Bears’ all-time greats!

Roquan treated Stafford like a native welcoming a
Christian to an isolated North Sentinel Island in India

But Eddie “Sorry Miss” Jackson (and Miss Stafford) gets the majority of the credit for this win.  Coming up with his 2nd 4th quarter Pick-6 in just 5 days, he’s now scored 3 times in the last 4 weeks, and he’s got 5 defensive TDs in our last 21 games (he had 2 in CAR last year).  And he did it this week not 30 seconds after my dad said, “We need a pick-6.”  So, I’m sorry Mr. Jackson, but my old man gets your game ball because if he hand’t called it, it probably wouldn’t have happened (nice work, Pally!).

Jackson did that ball like Michael Jackson did that kid with cancer –
he took it to the house!

We still can’t run the ball effectively, and our secondary’s tackling skills are suspect, but we’re a very balanced team.  Especially when Cody “Squi” Parkey is on his game.  After the Bears failed on the 2-point conversion following their 1st TD, they let Squi kick the XPTs on our other 2 TDs.  He wound up going 3 for 3, counting an early 40-yard FG, netting himself a squi-sized 5 points.  Incidentally, he’s 95% (60 for 63) from 40 yards or less in his career, and 8 of 9 in that range this year.  So if we can keep his kicks short, and he can avoid the goalposts, we’re going to be tough to beat.

Squi’s improved kicking comes courtesy of the “2-footer technique”

Outlook
With our 5th win in a row, which our staff predicted, we’re now 3-1 in the division, 6-1 in the conference, and 8-3 (.732) overall.  And we’ll maintain at least a 1½ game lead in the division heading into our last 5 games.  GB (4-5-1) goes to Minnesota (5-4-1) on Sunday.  If the Pack wins, our lead would jump to 2½ games on each of them.  If the Vikings win, we’d still be up 1½ on them, but the Pack would be unofficially done – before we even have to play them again.  Which would be nice, considering A-A-Ron Rodgers sucks because he’s so good.

Hasn’t Stafford heard about Jackson?
I mean, he’s looking right at him here!

We now get 10 days rest (as does Truby’s shoulder), before heading to NYG a week from Sunday looking for our 6th W in a row, which our staff also predicted when we said “we could realistically be 9-3 on December 2 at about 3:15 pm CST.”  Now if we can just get the Lions to beat the Rams next Sunday (the Rams have a bye this week).  If both games go our way, we would then face the 10-2 Rams in prime time in a battle for the #2 NFC rank on 12/9.  And even our staff didn’t predict that we’d win that game, so it would be earth-shattering if we caught them with only 3 games left to play.  That would get us home-field advantage against everyone but the #1 ranked team in the playoffs, which today is a tie between the Rams and Saints (both 10-1).

As much as I take my fedora off to Daniel Chase,
I’ll be thankful if Mitchell comes back next week

Quotes of Note
Lou Canellis, on Daniel Chase:  “Exactly what we wanted.  Efficient…and most important, he didn’t turn the football over.” ~ Hard to believe I’m actually quoting Lou at all, let alone again.  Perhaps it’s his limited understand of the game that enables him to capture things so simply.

BTW, Lou, he did ALMOST turn it over…

Jim Miller, on Daniel Chase:  “He really wasn’t in harms way all day.  If he did miss, they were over-throws.” ~ I’m pretty sure Jimbo was talking about his passes, not his body.  Because his body definitely was in harms way.  For most of the day.  It took up a residency on harm avenue.

Daniel Chase stinks at “chase,” as he was sacked 4 times

Chase Daniel on Daniel Chase:  “The job of a backup QB is to get the starter ready, and to be prepared when your opportunity comes.  And I feel like I do that pretty well. ~ I don’t know if I’d call 1 career TD pass per decade playing “pretty well,” Bro v. Wade.

It looks like Lion Superfan #90 has heard of Jackson.
He can’t believe Stafford threw to his side of the field.

Daniel Chase, on his pregame outlook:  “This was gonna be a dogfight, and we have to prove it for 60 total minutes, not 58 or 57.” ~ Wow, I didn’t realize this guy was a Mathlete, too!

Daniel Chase:  “It’s simple mathematics, really.
You see, 60 is greater than 58 or 57…”

Daniel Chase, on the Bears’ preparations:  “We were ready for a bullfight.  And that’s what we got.” ~ Wait, I thought he said it was gonna be a dogfight?

Looks like he got both a dogfight AND a bullfight!

Daniel Chase on Eddie Jackson:  “We actually had a play for Eddie in the offensive game plan.  It was almost called, but we were on the wrong hash.  I was calling for it, actually, but we ended up scoring to Tarik on the corner route.” ~ Well it’s a good thing you’re not calling the plays, then, Mr. “Sucks At” Chase!

And here I thought Jesus Saved?
